  • Miss Jones Baking Co Organic Cake Mix (any flavor)
  • Miss Jones Organic Vanilla Buttercream of Organic Cream Cheese Buttercream frosting
  • Organic food coloring, blue and/or green
  • Large round piping tip
  • Piping bags fitted with large round piping tips
  • Off-set spatula
Following the directions on the box, bake the cake and let cool. Place the first layer on a cake plate and frost. Add the second layer and frost the top. Lightly frost the sides. It’s okay if some cake shows through. Divide the remaining frosting into small bowls for each color you are using, and add food coloring to each. For each color, fill a piping bag fitted with a large round tip. Beginning at the bottom of your iced cake, pipe a circle of frosting around the perimeter, alternating colors as you go. Or you can use one piping bag and add colors as you run out, for an ombre effect on the cake. Once you have completed a row, take your off-set spatula and smear each circle vertically up the side of the cake about an inch. Repeat until you reach the top of the cake. Using the same technique, make a scale pattern around the top of the cake. Your circles will get smaller and smaller until the entire top is iced. Want more easy birthday party inspo?
